Residential

Knox Box Program

The 1650 Residential Knox-Box is ideal for individuals:

• With a history of medical problems

• Recuperating from a hospital stay

• Living alone

• Using an electronic calling/medical alert service

The program prevents the additional stress of forced entry when a disabled or critically ill person is not able to open the door during a medical emergency.

A lock box, with an entrance door key inside, is mounted on the outside of the house entrance door. During an emergency when the inhabitant of the house cannot unlock the door for the fire department/paramedics, the emergency personnel will be able to open the lock box and use the entrance key to enter the residence without breaking the door to get in.

The Duncanville Citizen Fire Academy Alumni Association (DCFAAA) will make available to qualified citizens of Duncanville, the 1651 residential Knox Box (KB) dependent upon the supply. The Knox Box is installed on a 1 7/8 thick entrance door. One entrance key, supplied by the homeowner, is placed in the Knox Box. The Duncanville Fire Department (DFD) will have the only key to Knox Box and it will be accessed only for an entry during a medical emergency when the inhabitant is unable to open the entrance door. This will prevent forced entry and eliminate the cost to the homeowner of repair bills.

The Knox Boxes for the city of Duncanville will be keyed for one key, which will always be in possession of the Duncanville Fire Department and will never be given to a citizen.

A citizen of Duncanville will be able to obtain a Knox Box one of two ways.

Direct Purchase for the cost of the KB plus shipping. It will belong to the resident with the encouragement to donate it to the Residential Knox Box Program when the need is no longer present. (The Duncanville Fire Department will always maintain control of the key).

A loan from the Duncanville Fire Department at no cost, to the resident.

This will be a temporary distribution to a residence in need of a KB and will be returned to the Duncanville Fire Department when the need is no longer present.

The number of Knox Boxes available for loan to the residents in the city of Duncanville will depend on the generosity of donors to supply the money for the purchase of the Knox Boxes

The cost-plus shipping is $170 for a residential # 1651 Knox-Box.

The DCFAAA is asking for a donation of $170.00 to supply the Knox Box to the disabled in Duncanville.

Will you join with us in helping the disabled in Duncanville?

A nameplate will be placed on the box with, "Dedicated by: and the person or company name" for those that donate the total cost for that Knox-Box. It is expected that the nameplate will remain for the life of the box.
